Bildhardt, often called Bildhardt the Cryptohistorian, was the pen name of an unknown author who probably lived in Gideon City at least 100 years ago, probably between 300 and 350 OC. According to his own writings, he was a gnome, and so he could theoretically be alive today. No gnome has ever (credibly) claimed to be Bildhardt, and he has not published anything in the last hundred years, so most believe him dead.
Among cryptohistorians, Bildhardt is something of a legend. His methods, which include numerology, astrology, and esoteric divination magic, have been passed on among cryptohistorians down to today. His book, Complete History of Dragons, is very rare, but accurately described the nature of the vast draconic conspiracy years before it was revealed to the public. Nevertheless, other claims of his are still dismissed by serious scholars.
